The opening ceremony of the Top Vietnamese Brands and OCOP Products Week took place concurrently at MM Mega Market An Phu in Ho Chi Minh City and MM Mega Market Thang Long in Hanoi on October 6.

The event, held for the first time by MM Mega Market, aims to support the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s programme on stimulating domestic consumption, expanding domestic market, and supporting local businesses to promote their brands in the "new normal". The event will run until October 11.

The event has invited the participation of 60 local businesses with 30 booths in Hanoi and 30 booths in Ho Chi Minh City, displaying products in diverse categories such as consumer goods, craft village products, agricultural, forestry, seafood products, as well as safe and organic food, among others, which are well-known delicacies at many localities and regions of Vietnam.

The event, held for the first time by MM Mega Market, aims to support the MoIT’s programme on stimulating domestic consumption, expanding domestic market, and supporting local businesses to promote their brands in the "new normal".

Addressing the opening ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City, Bruno Jousselin, managing director of MM Mega Market Vietnam (MMVN) said, “Recently, agricultural products have faced multiple challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Today’s events concurrently held in Vietnam’s major metropolises Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi aim to boost domestic consumption, expand the domestic market and support businesses and enterprises to promote their brands to potential customers.”

“At the moment, MMVN is progressively working with partners to bring more OCOP products into our stores for fresh and dry food. More importantly, we are always in search of more strategic partnership with potential suppliers to grow together and bring more fresh products to our customers,” he added.

After the opening ceremony, MMVN signed MoUs with the departments of Industry and Trade from 14 provinces on fostering production and consumption of OCOP products.

Along with this, the departments from these 14 provinces had signed MoUs with MMVN in the framework of the Top Vietnamese Brands and OCOP Products Week in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

The stakeholder localities are Hanoi, Hai Duong, Haiphong, Bac Can, Son La, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Long An, Can Tho, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Dong Thap, Soc Trang, and Ba Ria-Vung Tau.

In light of the MOUs, the departments of Industry and Trade will provide full information about local production units and products to create opportunities to connect with MM in product consumption. Simultaneously, the departments will support distribution and purchasing units to finalise paperwork and the MM supermarket system to research production and supply capacity in related provinces.

Meanwhile, MMVN will work closely with the provincial departments of Industry and Trade to support and guide businesses, co-operatives, and business households to complete procedures to put their products into the distribution channel of MM supermarkets in the shortest time in order to help them conceive a stable and long-term production plan, especially for seasonal products with short harvest times.

This is the first time MM Mega Market organises Top Vietnam Brands and OCOP Products Week in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. This event lays the premise for MMVN to hold similar events supporting the promotion of OCOP products in the forthcoming time.

Previously, in 2019, MMVN coordinated with the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City to organise the Vietnam Fair in Thailand 2019 at Big C Centre, Bangkok. In August 2019, MMVN also signed an MoU with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to promote Vietnamese goods in the distribution system of MM in Vietnam and export them to foreign markets.
