Government announces VND30 trillion aid package for coronavirus-hit people

Unemployed people or workers forced to leave their jobs due to the coronavirus will receive VND1 million per person per month from April to June from the government’s VND30-trillion aid package, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said at a meeting on March 31.

Household businesses that have had to suspend their operations will receive the same amount. Meanwhile, people under social protection will be provided VND500,000 per person per month.

Speaking at the meeting, Phuc noted that the pandemic has negatively affected socioeconomic growth, with many businesses shutting down and many people losing their jobs.

To help people and businesses cope with the financial hardship inflicted by the pandemic, Phuc noted that the aid needs to be adequately distributed to five beneficiary categories: poor people, workers forced to leave their jobs, people under social protection, suspended household businesses and unemployed people.

The prime minister asked the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to collaborate with local authorities to ensure that the aid is given to the right people who are really in need and to not leave any needy people behind.

The ministry and local authorities must also ensure transparency and publicity in delivering the aid as well as prevent corruption and dishonesty.
