Electricity prices lowered to support pandemic-hit customers

Under the instructions, manufacturers and businesses will enjoy a power price cut of 10% compared with the power price regulated in Decision 648 issued on March 20 last year.

Local households consuming less than 300 kilowatt hours per month are eligible for the same discount for three months, starting from this month.

With the 10% discount, customers who consume 100 kilowatt hours per month may save VND17,000 each month, while those with power consumption of 200 kilowatt hours can save over VND37,000 per month. Those who use over 300 kilowatt hours are not entitled to the incentive.

Besides this, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has lowered the power price for operators of lodging facilities to that currently being applied to household businesses, the local media reported.

In addition, quarantine centers that provide treatment for Covid-19 cases are being given free electricity.

Health care facilities that serve Covid-19 patients and suspected cases of infection enjoy a discount of 20% on their electricity bills, while hotels and accommodation facilities requisitioned as quarantine zones for Covid-19 cases are also entitled to the 20% cut.

The total value of the power price cut borne by the State utility is estimated at VND11 trillion.

After the three-month reduction ends, power prices will return to normal as regulated in Decision 648 on the adjustment of the average electricity retail price and regulations on electricity prices.
