The Top Thai Brands 2020 trade fair showcased a wide range of branded products and services from Thailand. The event was held at the Koh Pich Exhibition and Convention Centre from February 6-9 with 216 companies participating.
Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Jurin Laksanawisit said the event is aimed at promoting products made in Thailand at affordable prices and encouraging local businesses to order directly from Thai factories.
“Some 200 exhibitors across 290 booths are highlighting their wares, which range across multiple product categories including food and beverages, fashion and accessories, household goods, baby products and consumer electronics,” he said.
Thai conglomerates such as Singha Corporation Co Ltd, Charoen Pokphand Group and Mitr Phol Group shared the stage alongside micro, small- and medium-sized enterprises, such as Gold Cross Thai Herb and Lanna Aromatics.
“These are quality branded products that we took from Thailand’s border provinces to show at this exhibition,” Jurin said.
The Top Thai Brands fair is organised annually by the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) under Thailand’s Ministry of Commerce and is held nationally and in other countries – including Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar and India.
It serves as a platform for both Thai and foreign enterprises to expand their networks and further develop strategic partnerships.
Cambodian Minister of Commerce Pan Sorasak said the event will help expand and strengthen mutual cooperation between the two countries.
“It shows a good sign of business development between the countries and fairs like these encourage [companies’] commitment to deepen cooperation.
“I believe that continuing good bilateral relations will boost bilateral trade and both economies,” Sorasak said, noting that Cambodian-Thai trade volume greatly increases every year.
Cambodian exports to Thailand comprise mainly of green mangoes, freshwater fish, seafood and automotive electrical wiring – particularly for Toyota, said the Minister Chancellor (Commercial) at the Thai embassy in Phnom Penh Jirawuth Suwanna-Arj.
The majority of imports into Cambodia were related to the food and hospitality sectors, with cookware and household goods accounting for a large share, he said.
Bilateral trade between Cambodia and Thailand reached $9.4 billion last year. Cambodia imported some $7.1 billion worth of goods from Thailand last year, and exported more than $2.2 billion, Jirawuth said.
