Hanoi giving strength to nation’s agri-goods
Hanoi is actively implementing co-operation programmes with different localities in the country to promote traditional Vietnamese products to local and foreign consumers.
Last week, about 400 enterprises, co-operatives, and manufacturing facilities of 58 cities and provinces, including 515 distributors, food trading chains, and restaurants participated in the conference on goods connecting and supplying Hanoi and many other provinces. At the event, enterprises had chances to connect and exchange experiences as well as present their products to participants of the whole country.
Participating in the event, the booth of Vinh Thinh Company from Thai Nguyen was very busy with visitors. Vinh Thinh is among the businesses directly supported by Hanoi, which helped the company in accessing consumers in the city and the whole country over the last three years by selling specialties like honey and tea of Thai Nguyen at the Agricultural Trade Promotion Centre.
“Our products are increasingly welcomed by Hanoians. We are happy to receive more and more orders and also had chances to introduce our products to foreigners through international events taking place here,” Nguyen Hong Minh, director of the company, told VIR.
Like Minh’s company, Donafresh, the mountain-themed market in the middle of Hanoi also has a booth at the centre to introduce products of mountainous regions like pork, chicken, and herbals.
“Thanks to Hanoi’s facilitation, our products could be seen beyond Bac Kan and Cao Bang provinces. Our most wanted products are vegetables and beef, which are naturally grown and fed. They have even been selected by many foreigners who visit exhibitions here,” a representative of the booth said to VIR.
At the Agricultural Trade Promotion Centre, Hanoi also supports other provinces like Hung Yen and Nghe An to set up booths to display and promote their products.
In previous years, the city has connected and signed many MoUs with other cities and provinces. Particularly, in 2019, it organised working delegations to different localities and implemented comprehensive co-operation with provinces like Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Danang, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, and Can Tho.
In the last two years, Hanoi has co-operated with cities and provinces to establish 24 trading activities, including for products such as fruit and flowers. So far, over 350 new products have been introduced to Hanoi-based businesses.
Furthermore, Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade has regularly collaborated with relevant departments in cities and provinces to provide a list of local producers to traders and distributors in the city, contributing to enhance the value of local goods in the integrational context. Many agricultural products of different localities supported and promoted by Hanoi have been well sold in supermarkets, restaurants, and food chains in the city. In addition, about 200 new suppliers of localities have provided goods to large distribution channels in Hanoi like Big C Thang Long and Hapro. These movements have helped farmers earn more income, and supported cities and provinces to consume goods in case of abundant supply.
The capital city, with its high-densified population of 10.3 million, has a huge demand for agricultural products. However, the city’s own ability of supplying the demand is low. Currently, Hanoi can only meet about 35 per cent of its rice demand, 15 per cent of the required beef, and just 5 per cent of seafood. Conversely, the demand for pork and chicken is being met under normal conditions.
