Ecommerce platforms called attractive to consumers thanks to promotional programs

Local consumers are increasingly keen on purchasing products from ecommerce platforms due to their many promotional programs, according to a recent survey by Nielsen Vietnam.

Speaking at Vietnam Business Outlook 2020, held by Business Management Group in HCMC on November 22, Dang Thuy Ha, director of Client Leadership at Nielsen Vietnam, said 85% of surveyed consumers said they preferred online shopping due to promotional programs.

Moreover, 73% of those surveyed regularly check whether products are accompanied with promotional programs before making decisions to purchase such products, while 65% of consumers look for and compare promotional programs from different ecommerce platforms.

Ecommerce platforms mainly offer promotional codes and deliver products at no charge, making up 53% and 51%, respectively, of all promotional forms.

Ha noted that Vietnam has a young population and a high number of Internet users.

Local consumers are keen on experiencing new products and services, which encourages the development of brands.

In addition, the middle class is growing quickly, and consumers who are willing to pay more for high-quality products account for nearly 26% of the total, creating opportunities for enterprises.

At the conference, experts agreed that ecommerce has changed consumers’ shopping habits, urging enterprises to continue to improve their products and services.

Of note, while the digital transformation of business is extremely important, many Vietnamese enterprises, particularly small- and medium-sized businesses, have paid little or no attention to it.

Next year, the country will face multiple challenges due to the continuing United States-China trade war. Nevertheless, the local economy will continue growing in the coming years.
