PM asks Danang to review 21 foreign-owned land lots

The prime minister has ordered the Danang government to look into violations related to 21 coastal land lots owned by Chinese nationals, in line with prevailing regulations.

The official order sent by the Government Office to the municipal government said that there are 246 land lots along coastal urban areas near Nuoc Man military airport in Ngu Hanh Son District. Chinese nationals own the rights to 21 of them.

Director of the Danang Department of Natural Resources and Environment said that the land use rights certificates for the 21 lots in the central city had earlier been granted to Vietnamese nationals. During business cooperation activities, the Chinese had contributed capital and acquired stakes, giving them ownership over these land lots, according to the notice.

Following the announcement, covered by the local media, the prime minister asked the municipal government to handle the issue in line with Vietnamese regulations.

The local media had earlier reported that the municipal government had rented out a 20-hectare lot in Khue My Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, to the Silver Hoang Dat International Entertainment and Travel firm for its business operations, with a lease term of 50 years.

On March 21, 2007 the city government issued a land use rights certificate for the firm, which is a joint venture between local firm Hoang Dat JSC and U.S.-based Silver Shores Company, with an ownership distribution of 10% and 90%, respectively. Sui Gui Nan, a Chinese national, represents the Silver Shores Company.

The second company involved in these lots is a local firm, V.N. Holiday. The foreign ownership rate in the firm is 48%, held by a Chinese investor named Lijinan.

Domestic firms and individuals had earlier transferred 20 land lots near Nuoc Man military airport to V.N. Holiday between 2013 and 2015. These lots were granted land use rights certificates.
