SE Asia’s largest solar power plant inaugurated in southern Vietnam
A solar power project with a total capacity of 420 MW, which is considered the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia, has been put into operation in the southern Vietnamese province of Tay Ninh.
The inauguration of the Dau Tieng solar power complex was organized in Tan Chau District, Tay Ninh Province on Saturday morning.
The event was attended by former State President Nguyen Minh Triet, Head of the Central Economic Commission Nguyen Van Binh, Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh, and leaders of provinces and cities in southern Vietnam.
Developed by Vietnam’s Xuan Cau Company and Thailand’s B. Grimm Power Public Company, the project cost more than VND9.1 trillion (US$391 million).
The construction took place in more than 10 months.
Designed with the capacity of 420 MW, the complex covers an area of over 540 hectares within the semi-submerged land at Dau Tieng Lake in Tay Ninh.
The plant is able to supply approximately 688 million kWh per year to the national grid.
Its primary function is to provide clean energy for Tay Ninh and other southern localities.
Speaking at the inauguration, Binh, the head of the Central Economic Commission, said the plant would help turn Tay Ninh into one of the country’s "capitals" of solar power.
It will contribute to the valuable resources of green and clean energy, while helping ensure national energy security and boosting local socio-economic development, the official stated.
