Nestlé invests US$100 million in Hung Yen expansion
Nestlé Vietnam yesterday inaugurated a project to expand Hung-Yen-based Nestlé Bong Sen plant in the second phase, raising its total investment in this northern province to nearly US$100 million.
Nestlé has tripled its capital and expanded its operations in Hung Yen since 2017, as business expansion is part of its strategy to take the lead in offering more nutritious beverages in the country, especially in the northern region.
Some 600 direct and thousands of indirect jobs are expected to be created by Nestlé in Hung Yen and across the region by 2025.
With the launch of its fifth and sixth production lines, Nestlé Bong Sen has doubled its production capacity within the past two years, said Christian Schmid, Nestlé’s technical director for Asia, Africa and Oceania.
Nestlé Bong Sen is the sixth plant owned by Nestlé in Vietnam and the second in Hung Yen.
Speaking at the event, Vo Tuan Nhan, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, pointed out that Vietnam is among countries that are vulnerable to climate change and plastic waste pollution. Thus, one of the country’s top priorities is to encourage and attract responsible investors to develop the local sustainable economy.
For years, Nestlé Vietnam has demonstrated its commitment to sustainable investment. All six of its plants do not bury solid waste and have adopted ecofriendly technologies in their operations, stressed Nhan.
The deputy minister noted that the Nestlé Bong Sen plant and Nestlé Vietnam would strictly follow Vietnamese regulations on business operations and environmental protection activities.
Dang Ngoc Quynh, vice chairman of the provincial government, stated that Nestlé has recruited over 200 employees in the two years following its expansion in Hung Yen. The firm made a full tax declaration and associated payments of over VND62 billion in 2017 and 2018.
