Capital should be prioritized for urgent projects: PM

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has asked the Ministry of Planning and Investment and other ministries to complete a plan to use VND10 trillion from the fund for important national projects in the 2016-2020 period, prioritizing urgent projects.

At a Government meeting on August 13 to discuss the allocation of VND10 trillion, PM Phuc asked the Ministry of Planning and Investment to coordinate with other ministries and consult with Cabinet members on the plan before submitting it to the National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee.

He suggested prioritizing projects to prevent and control natural disasters and the impact of climate change, especially landslides in the Mekong Delta region and flooding in the northern mountainous region.

The ministry should also review the use of the remaining capital from the 2016-2020 public investment plan, including the extra collection and backup amounts.

Despite controversies surrounding the mid-term public investment plan, the Government leader stressed that the Government has executed the plan in line with the law and resolutions of the NA Standing Committee in a transparent manner to prevent corruption and wastefulness.

The Government will prioritize capital for difficult regions and important projects to develop the economy.

As for the Huu Nghi-Chi Lang expressway project in the northern mountainous province of Lang Son, the prime minister noted that the Government will continue supporting the project.

He also asked the competent agencies to complete the prefeasibility study and the financial plan for the Dong Dang-Tra Linh expressway project, linking the Lang Son and Cao Bang expressways. He requested the relevant ministries and agencies to seek investment for the project, including through official development assistance loans.

The two expressways, when in place, will help reduce the travel time from Hanoi to Cao Bang to 2-2.5 hours from the current 5.5-6 hours.
