Thai trade expo opens in Mekong Delta province

Up to 250 businesses from Viet Nam and Thailand are showcasing their products at a trade exhibition that opened in the Mekong Delta province of An Giang on Friday.

On display are consumer goods, food, farm produce, household utensils, electronics, garments and textiles, footwear, cosmetics and jewellery, along with traditional dishes from the two countries.

The Viet Nam-Thailand expo, the first of its kind in An Giang, is a chance for the two business communities to seek new co-operation opportunities, organisers said.

The event will last until June 9.

Thai products currently enter the Vietnamese market via four major distribution channels: Mega Market with 19 supermarkets, B’smart with 75 convenience stores, Big C with 32 supermarkets and Robinson with a chain of Thai outlets.

The Thai government offers favourable conditions for Thai firms to join trade exhibitions in ASEAN member countries. There are between a dozen and 20 Thai goods exhibitions held in Viet Nam every year.
