Swedish business delegation comes knocking

A Swedish business delegation led by Minister for Foreign Trade is in Vietnam to sound out opportunities in five areas including infrastructure, manufacturing, consumer solutions, health and education.

The delegation includes leaders from 50 Swedish companies, trade supporting organizations, research institutes and public agencies.

As part of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Sweden-Vietnam diplomatic ties and on the occasion of the visit to Vietnam by Crown Princess of Sweden Victoria Ingrid Alice Désiree during 6–8 May, the business delegation joined the Sweden–Vietnam Business Summit: Partnering for Sustainable Growth and Innovation held in Hanoi on May 7.

The summit provided a platform for business executives and leaders from both countries to exchange ideas, experiences and share best practices for mutual benefits. The event also aimed to strengthen the collaboration between Swedish and Vietnamese companies and to showcase Swedish products and business solutions for cooperation with Vietnam.

“For Sweden, there is a good range of reasons to look towards Vietnam for both trade and business opportunities,” Ann Linde, Minister for Foreign Trade, said in a statement.

Linde said Vietnam has one of the highest economic growth rates in the world. Its growing middle class is among the world’s most optimistic consumers and entrepreneurs and the country has shown a strong commitment to global trade with multiple free trade agreements, including one with the EU expected to come into effect in 2020.

“Vietnam is not only an intriguing emerging market opportunity for multinational corporations and an upcoming global manufacturing hub, but also home to a rapidly evolving and highly dynamic entrepreneurship ecosystem,” Linde said.

She added that many Swedish companies and trade organizations want to contribute to Vietnam’s continued development. “The large interest is shown in the number of companies and trade delegates travelling with me to Vietnam,” Linde said.

In conjunction with the summit, there were two exhibitions open to the public. One focuses on individual companies and their products and solutions, while the other from the Swedish Institute offers Swedish innovative and creative solutions to the Vietnamese audience.
