HCMC, NZ aim to promote education and trade cooperation

HCMC Vice Chairman Le Thanh Liem on March 27 met with the CEO of New Zealand Trade & Enterprise (NZTE), Peter Chrisp, at the City Hall to exchange trade information between New Zealand and HCMC.

Speaking at the meeting, Liem noted that the Vietnam-New Zealand comprehensive partnership is on an upward trend, seeing cooperation advancing in a range of fields, including economy, culture and education.

Since mid-2017, more than 70 New Zealand products have been sold in the Vietnamese market.

Liem noted that the city is currently home to some 350,000 firms, of which small and medium enterprises (SMEs) account for the lion’s share at 99%, smoothing the way for SMEs from New Zealand to enter HCMC to expand their businesses and cooperation efforts.

“The city is in dire need of smart and innovative products in fields such as education and technology, which are regarded as a strong point of New Zealand,” remarked Liem.

Chrisp stated that Vietnam is a key market for New Zealand.

As many as 66 New Zealand firms are operating in Vietnam and their growth is benefiting the two countries, Chrisp said, adding that the need for the management of smart products in Vietnam is rising, so New Zealand will assist the country with training its workforce and improving local laborers’ skills.

In addition, the NZTE representative pointed out that owing to New Zealand’s strengths in manufacturing formula milk, he expected the cooperation between the two countries to grow in the coming period to meet the demand for dairy products in the local market.
