TH Group widens global influence

Locally-invested TH Group is taking the lead in developing the country’s hi-tech agricultural sector, making a splash in overseas markets thanks to an expansion in business and investment.

Last year Vietnam’s agricultural sector grew 3.76 per cent on-year, exceeding the government target of 2.8-3 per cent. The sector’s total export turnover hit a record $40.2 billion, contributing greatly to the economy’s impressive growth rate of 7.08 per cent. TH has also been making positive contributions to the country’s economy in general and the agricultural sector in particular.

Taking root in Russia

Last September the group began construction of a fresh milk processing plant, with daily capacity of 1,500 tonnes, at the Borovsk special industrial economic zone in the Kaluga region of Russia.

The plant is part of TH’s $2.7 billion dairy farm and milk processing mega-complex project in Russia. It is also the largest and most modern fresh milk plant in that country, and will also be Vietnam’s first project of the type there.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Vietnam’s Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Vasilievich Gordeev, and other leaders of both nations’ related ministries.

“I am impressed with TH Group’s investment here. This plant will be one of the largest and most modern milk plants in Russia,” said Party General Secretary Trong, who is also the Vietnamese State President. “This project will not only help raise trade and investment ties, but also reflect Vietnam’s support of Russia in developing its agricultural sector which used to rank on top of the world.”

At the event, TH founder Thai Huong said, “This is a historic moment for the group and the Borovsk special industrial economic zone, because this project will help further cement our solidarity.”

In January 2018, TH also inaugurated its high-yield dairy cow farm in Moscow’s Volokolamsk district, with the first 1,100 thoroughbred cows imported from the US.

Penetrating China’s market

On November 5, 2018 at the China International Import Expo 2018 in Shanghai, Chinese Party General Secretary, State President Xi Jinping and Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited the TH booth. The Chinese leader held a TH true MILK package, while listening to the introduction of it.

His attention to this and other Vietnamese agricultural products was seen in the context that both nations are set to ink a protocol on milk product exports. TH is already preparing to export its products to China in big volumes.

Currently, TH has a branch in Guangzhou for distribution, via co-operation with big retail chains including C-Store (420 stores) and Circle-K (76 stores) in order to develop a distribution system in Shenzhen, Guangxi, and in Hong Kong.

Last April at the Food and Hotel Asia Expo 2018 in Singapore, many partners from Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, China, and Hong Kong also showed their interest in co-operating with the Vietnamese group in distributing the products.

On November 27, 2018, TH received a certificate of merit from the prime minister for its excellent work in implementing Resolution No.26-NQ/TW of the 10th Central Party Committee on developing agriculture, farmers and rural areas. This mirrors the government’s recognition of TH’s great contributions over the past decade, via its hi-tech agricultural projects, to the nation.

At present, TH has over 70 types of products made from fresh milk materials, and is the leading provider of fresh milk, with more than 40 per cent of the Vietnamese fresh milk market share.
