Exports rocket during Tet
Vietnam’s export revenue during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, from February 2 to 10, amounted to US$389 million, marking a surge of 34.6% over revenue earned last Tet, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.
During the holiday, the revenue from import-export activities reached more than US$1 billion, up 12% versus that recorded during the last Tet holiday, which was two days shorter than this year’s holiday.
Of the amount, the country spent US$611 million on imports, up a mere 1.2%.
Customs data also show that the number of enterprises across the country conducting import-export activities during the holiday doubled, reaching 1,260 firms.
They mainly shipped computers, phones, electronic products and accessories to other countries. These products helped the country generate US$263 million in export revenue, accounting for nearly 68% of the total.
In addition, machinery, equipment, tools and machine parts; clinker and cement; fuels; and vegetables and fruits were also major export earners in the period.
On the other hand, the country also purchased computers, phones and accessories (US$358 million); machinery, equipment, tools and machine parts (US$86.4 million); fuels (US$21.2 million); and cashew (US$18.2 million).
