Chinese firms explore investment, import opportunities

A business delegation from China is paying a visit to Viet Nam to study the possibility of investing and importing agro-fishery-forestry products from the Southeast Asian country.

At a working session in Ha Noi on Monday with officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), several Chinese enterprises agreed to import 100,000 tonnes of rice from Viet Nam.

Some other businesses wanted to import ca loc – a kind of freshwater fish – and fresh sweet potatoes and durians from Viet Nam.

Representatives of the Chinese firms said they hope to set up partnerships with major Vietnamese companies that are able to provide large amounts of products through official channels.

Tran Van Cong, deputy director of the Agro Processing and Market Development Authority, introduced the Chinese businesspeople to domestic enterprises which are eligible to export argo-fishery-forestry products and pledged to ensure the highest standards.

The Chinese businesses also expressed their wish to invest in Viet Nam in the fields of hi-tech applications and clean agricultural production.

During their stay until Saturday, members of the delegation are scheduled to work with localities such as HCM City and the southern provinces of Tien Giang, Binh Thuan and Binh Phuoc to learn about potential import products.
