Prime Minister meets leaders of multinational groups in Davos

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received leaders from many world leading multinational corporations on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2019 in Davos on January 23 (local time).

At a reception for CEO of Apple Tim Cook, the Prime Minister congratulated the group on its successful business activities in Vietnam over the past time and expressed his support for the establishment of an Apple data centre in Vietnam.

The PM hoped the group will continue investing effectively and transparently in Vietnam in the long run as well as serve as a bridge for US enterprises to increase investment in the Southeast Asian country.

Meeting CEO of AB Inbev Carlos Brito, PM Phuc highly appreciated the group’s investment in Vietnam and affirmed that the Vietnamese government is stepping up efforts to restructure the economy towards sustainable development, and improve the business and investment environment.

The PM asked the group to lobby the European Union for quicker approval of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) to facilitate stronger cooperation between Vietnamese and European enterprises.

During a reception for Magesvaran Suranjan, President at Procter & Gamble, PM Phuc hailed the group’s operation in Vietnam and suggested it continue expanding business in the country.

At his talk with CEO of Adidas Kasper Rorsted, the PM thanked the European business community, including Adidas, for cooperating with and supporting Vietnam in the negotiation process of the EVFTA.

The PM expressed his confidence that once the agreement comes into force, bilateral trade and investment activities will further develop, bringing benefits for the two sides’ people and businesses.

Receiving Carlsberg’s President and CEO Cees’t Hart, PM Phuc hailed the corporation’s business success in the past time. He stressed that together with other foreign groups, Carlsberge has made significant contributions to the equitisation process of the beer, alcohol and beverage industry in Vietnam.

He hoped that Carlsberg will join efforts to accelerate the EU’s ratification of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), helping open up new opportunities for businesses from both sides.

Talking to Facebook’s Vice President Nick Clegg, the Vietnamese Government leader asked the company to cooperate with Vietnam to develop its IT sector, particularly in assisting start-ups and small and medium enterprises in accessing information and developing their business via social network.

Regarding the recent cases involving the spread of false information on the social network, PM Phuc asked Facebook to fully abide by Vietnamese regulations, and improve its management as well as services for Vietnamese customers, especially the authentication mechanism to prevent tampering.

At a reception for Executive Vice President at Sanofi’s External Affairs Kathleen Tregoning, PM Phuc praised the firm’s projects in Vietnam, which helped protect and improve Vietnamese people’s health.

He wished that Sanofi will continue technology transfer in the production of medicines, vaccines, and biological medicinal products while improving product quality and reducing medicine prices to make it accessible for all citizens.
