A year pioneering and innovation

The Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) has affirmed its position as the pioneer in innovation through providing advice and crafting policies, contributing to socioeconomic development and the improvement of the country’s business climate.

Pioneering innovation

At the 2018 review meeting of the MPI held on January 16, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung said: “Renovation and innovation, which have been the Party and the government’s policy for more than 30 years, are essential for development. The MPI, the agency providing general advice on strategies, master plans, plans for national socioeconomic development, asks all of the ministry’s officers to innovate and reform by providing advice on policy drafts.”

At last year’s review meeting of the ministry, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc recognised the officers of the planning and investment sector, who are fighting in the frontline of innovating economic thinking to accelerate the country’s development and integration. The PM assigned the MPI to continue promoting innovation and propose practical solutions to facilitate fast and sustainable economic development.

With the slogan of “pioneering innovation, seizing opportunities,” all officers of the MPI and the planning and investment apparatus have been fulfilling their tasks with great élan, making significant contributions to the socioeconomic development of the country in 2018.

The MPI has proposed numerous effective solutions related to policies, contributing to the general success of the Vietnamese economy in 2018. All indicators assigned by the National Assembly were reached, with many even surpassed.

Of these, the economy maintained stability with outstanding outcomes. GDP growth reached a record of 7.08 per cent, the highest over the last ten years, and higher than the forecasts of domestic and foreign organisations. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) was maintained at 3.54 per cent. The scale of the economy increased sharply, while the quality of growth rose and took a more sustainable track.

In 2018 the MPI has accomplished all of its missions. One of the outstanding results was the perfection of the public investment management, improvement of the investment and business climate, enterprise development, as well as proposing a new model of socioeconomic development, and carrying out tasks related to Industry 4.0.

Continuing the good work

For 2019, the MPI has been assigned numerous tasks, such as restructuring the economy in line with the 4.0 growth model, formulating a Law on PPP, as well as amending the Law on Investment, the Law on Enterprises, and the Law on Public Investment.

The MPI has also been assigned as the permanent agency to summarise the 2011-2020 socioeconomic development strategy and build a new one for the next decade, as well as summarise the 2016-2020 socioeconomic development plan and build a new one for the next five years.

In 2019, the MPI will continue innovating and taking decisive action to accomplish its missions with even better performance, and to contribute to the breakthrough in economic development to pass the goals set forth.

On January 10, 2019, the MPI issued Directive No.01/CT-BKHDT including 23 groups of tasks to implement Resolution No.01/NQ-CP on the major tasks and measures for the implementation of socioeconomic development and estimation of the state budget in 2019.
