Ho Chi Minh City store caught selling alleged fake 'luxury watches’ at dirt cheap prices
A watch shop near Ben Thanh Market in Ho Chi Minh City was caught advertising purported fake luxury watches at rock bottom prices on Thursday.
Officers of the city’s Market Management Agency found and confiscated hundreds of allegedly fake and counterfeit watches displayed next to authentic timepieces during a raid on Duc Dong Ho store on Le Thi Rieng Street in District 1.
The shop owner, who has been running the business since 2014, was unable to present sufficient invoices and authorized papers to indicate the authenticity of his products.
Most of the watches branded with luxury names such as Rolex, Dior, or Hublot were brought into Vietnam from unknown sources and sold at low prices, ranging from VND400,000 (US$17) to VND800,000 ($34) apiece – way cheaper than genuine products.
Officers said they are cooperating with representatives from Hublot and Rolex in order to trace the origins of the confiscated products,
On the same day, the city’s market watchdog also inspected Nam Dang Commercial and Service Co. Ltd., on Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street in District 3, and caught the company selling banned and unregulated cigarettes.
The agency seized over 400 packs of cigarettes and several e-cigarettes of different brands and origins.
