$15-billion projects proposed for Van Don

The three super projects in Van Don Special Administrative-Economic Zone are Mong Cai-Van Don high-speed railway, Hon Net-Con Ong deep seaport and industrial urban zone, and complex urban area in the north of Cai Bau Island.

At the meeting between the leaders of Quang Ninh province and the joint venture of Vision Transportation Group (VTG), Hai Dang JSC, and Sunny World Property Development Corp, the businesses proposed to develop three large-scale projects with the expected total cost of $10-15 billion in Van Don.

The urban complex in the north of Cai Bau Island will include a residential area and shopping and service areas on 5,000 ha. It will be connected to Van Don Airport, the railway station, and the Van Don Heritage road in the southern part of the island.

The Hon Net-Con Ong seaport project worth $1.2 billion will p a total area of 500ha. The construction of the port system will be conducted in phrases. In the first stage, a wharf with a length of 350-400 meters will be raised to accommodate 150,000 deadweight tonnage (DWT) vessels.

Meanwhile, the Van Don-Mong Cai high-speed railway project will have the length of 100km, connecting Mong Cai border gate to Van Don special administrative economic zone with the central station located at an urban complex in the north of Cai Bau Island. It will be used for passengers and cargo transportation, as well as strengthen connectivity of transportation and urban infrastructure not only in Van Don but also across provinces.

Nguyen Duc Long, Chairman of the Quang Ninh provincial People's Committee lauded the capacity of the joint venture and request to expand studies for these projects.

Secretary of the Quang Ninh Party Committee Nguyen Van Doc also applauded these three proposed projects, adding that local authorities would create the most favourable conditions for implementation as the projects fit the province's long-term vision. Doc confirmed that the province agreed with the proposals of the three-investor joint venture and authorised them to study these projects.
