Garment-textile expo opens in HCM City

A wide range of machinery and equipment, automated technologies and raw materials for the garment and textile industry are on display at the 2018 SaigonTex exhibition which opened on April 11 in HCM City.

The Viet Nam Sai Gon Textile and Garment Industry and Fabric & Garment Accessories Expo has attracted 900 exhibitors from 27 countries and territories.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vo Tan Thanh, director of the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s HCM City chapter, said a number of the world’s leading manufacturers of textile and garment equipment and accessories are exhibiting their automatic equipment and machinery and some new accessories.

Le Tien Truong, general director of the Viet Nam National Textile and Garment Group, said: “The highlight of the exhibition this year is the increased number of domestic enterprises who supply garment and textile accessories. This is an encouraging sign for the textile and garment industry.”

Phan Chi Dung, director of the Light Industry Department, said textiles and garments are among the country’s biggest exports.

The industry earned US$31 billion from exports last year after a year-on-year increase of over 10 per cent.

In the context of a global transformation in the production model due to industry 4.0, the Vietnamese textile and garment industry needs to invest in innovation to sustain its strong growth and competitiveness, Dũng said.

The expo offers domestic companies a chance to network with their foreign counterparts and explore investment opportunities and acquire technologies to increase the local content in their products and improve quality.

Besides showcasing the latest products and technologies, the expo will also feature several conferences where experts from Việt Nam and other countries will share the latest information about the industry and offer market forecasts and solutions for the benefit of the participants.

Organised by the Viet Nam National Textile and Garment Group, VCCI Exhibition Service Co.Ltd, CP Vietnam Exhibition Organisation, and CP Exhibition Hongkong, the expo at the Sai Gon Exhibition and Convention Centre will go on until April 14.
