Government plans to inspect employers of foreigners
The government will strengthen its inspection of employers to ensure they have work permits and proper paperwork for their foreign employees, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Labour released earlier this week.
Inspection teams will visit businesses, NGOs, casinos and entertainment venues to ensure business owners are following the labour and immigration laws, which require all foreigners working there to hold valid work permits and visas.
The statement also said the ministries would enact punishments according to the law against any employers found to be violating the provisions.
Cambodia had long maintained a lax approach toward foreign workers and residency, but in recent months the government has made a push to enforce long-standing rules regarding work permits and business visas.
