Gold prices rise significantly before Tết

The gold prices of two Vietnamese gold bars on Monday saw significant increases of from VND70,000 (US$3.07) to VND110,000 per tael, in line with the global trend.

The prices at Sai Gon Jewellery Holding Company (SJC) at 9am were trading at VND36.9 million per tael (buying rate) and VND37.14 million per tael (selling rate), up VND110,000 per tael compared to the previous recorded rate.

SJC’s gold prices at Ha Noi’s DOJI Gold and Gemstone Group on Monday rose sharply, ranging from VND36.92 million to VND37.12 million per tael (buying and selling rates), up VND70,000 per tael compared to the previous rates.

Last week, SJC’s gold price decreased for two consecutive sessions, with an adjustment of up to nearly VND200,000 per tael.

Similarly, the price of Rong Vang Thang Long gold on Monday’s morning session increased VND100,000 per tael, with the purchase and sale price of this brand in the range of VND36.92-VND37.37 million per tael.

Currently, Rong Vang Thang Long continues to be more expensive than SJC brand by some VND230,000 per tael.

In the global market, gold price traded at some $1,325 per ounce, up $9 compared to the previous session and equivalent to VND36.03 million per tael when converted in the domestic exchange rate.

This price of gold in the world is now lower than the domestic SJC gold by some VND1.1 million per tael.

On Monday morning, the State Bank of Viet Nam announced the VND/US$ exchange rate of VND22,430 per US dollar on February 12, down 10 dong per US dollar from the previous session.
