All 21 APEC leaders to attend summit

All 21 leaders of the APEC economies have confirmed their attendance at the upcoming APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week in the central city of Da Nang.

Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Vice Chairman of the APEC 2017 National Committee Bui Thanh Son confirmed the information at a press briefing on Thursday in Ha Noi.

The APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week, themed “Creating New Dynamism, Fostering A Shared Future”, will take place from November 6-11.

Among eight main events during the APEC high-level week, Viet Nam’s President Tran Dai Quang will chair the 25th APEC Economic Leaders’ Retreat, the APEC – ASEAN Informal Dialogue, an official welcome ceremony for the APEC Economic Leaders and their spouses, and the Gala Dinner and Cultural Performance. He will deliver the opening speech at the APEC CEO Summit.

According to Son, a record number of more than 2,000 leading foreign and domestic businesses have registered to attend the CEO summit, making it the best-attended event by businesses within the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.

Viet Nam will also organise the Vietnam Business Summit, the country’s first-ever regional event for businesses in order to promote economic and development policies, as well as introduce Viet Nam’s potential in investment, tourism and business opportunities.

On this occasion, the APEC Park which displays artistic statues contributed by 19 APEC member economies will officially open on November 9.

On the sidelines of the event, there will be many bilateral meetings between Vietnamese and APEC leaders which aim to enhance bilateral relations as well as co-operation within APEC.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, US President Donald Trump, Chile President Michelle Bachelet, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau have all affirmed their State visit to Viet Nam on this occasion, Son said.

Established in 1989, the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) comprises 21 economies, and represents about 39 per cent of the world’s population, 57 per cent of the global GDP and 49 per cent of international trade.
