Japanese travel agency to help build resort complex in VN
H.I.S. Co, Ltd. (H.I.S) President Hideo Sawada recently confirmed that the company would develop a resort and hotel complex in Cam Ranh in the central coast province of Khanh Hoa.
Sawada told the Nikkei Asian Review that his travel agency would co-operate with a Vietnamese group to build a large-scale resort with an initial investment of 200 billion yen (about US$1.8 billion), including five to six hotels, of which HIS will build two.
According to Sawada, the unnamed Vietnamese investor is interested in duplicating a neighbourhood similar to the Huis Ten Bosch theme park in Japan’s Nagasaki Prefecture, also currently under H.I.S management.
In assessing the possibility and profitability of such a model, Sawada said that for developing economies like Viet Nam’s, higher incomes have created a favourable environment for the entertainment and recreation business.
He then explained that Cam Ranh is conveniently located just one hour from HCM City, with beautiful harbours and beaches guaranteed to draw visitors, and since the region is already able to attract a high number of visitors per year, the park model would likely be successful.
Huis Ten Bosch, opened in 2010, has three million annual visitors, earning about 10 billion yen ($89.44 million) each year, proving that such theme park models are profitable.
H.I.S. is a Tokyo-based travel group, specializing in affordable tours. Established in 1980, it has 303 offices in Japan and 230 branch offices in 141 cities across 66 countries around the world.
It also holds a majority stake in Asia Pacific Airlines and part of Skymark Airlines. As of 2016, the company’s revenue was 523.7 billion yen ($4.6 billion) with of a global total of 14,380 employees.
In Viet Nam, H.I.S. has opened three offices in HCM City, Ha Noi and Da Nang City.
