Tra Vinh gives licence for wind power project

Tra Vinh Province’s Management Board of Economic Zones on Tuesday granted an investment registration certificate to two investors to develop the first phase of the Duyen Hai Wind Power Project.

The investors are HCM City-based Asia Energy Petroleum Corporation, and Unison eTech Co Ltd from South Korea.

To be located in Duyen Hai District’s Dong Hai Commune, the plant will see an investment of VND2.8 trillion (US$125 million) in its first phase, whose design capacity is 48.3MW from 21 turbines, at 2.3MW each.

Once operational in December 2019, the project is expected to generate over 135,200MWh per year.

Nguyen Quynh Thien, deputy director of the Management Board of Economic Zones, said that as per the southern province’s wind power development plan till 2020 (with a vision to 2030), Tra Vinh plans to set up six wind power plants in Duyen Hai District and Duyen Hai Town. Of these, three plants will be located at Truong Long Hoa, two at Hiep Thanh Commune, and one at Dong Hai Commune.

The total installed capacity of these wind power plants is estimated to be 270MW, producing 634 million kWh, he added.

Previously, the board had granted an investment licence to Tra Vinh 1 Power Plant Co Ltd and allowed Ecotech Company and Thai Hoa Company to study and measure wind power for their investment plans.
