Thuan Hoa Hydropower Plant starts commercial operation

Thuan Hoa Hydropower Joint Stock Company and Ha Giang Province’s People’s Committee has jointly inaugurated a power plant on the Mien River.

The plant is located in Thuan Hoa Commune of the northern mountainous province’s Vi Xuyen District.

The construction on the Thuan Hoa Hydropower Plant with a capacity of 38MW was started in October 2014 at an investment cost of VND1.3 trillion.

Nguyen Quang Dao, chairman of the company’s management board, said that once operational, the plant would produce 150 million kWh, generating an annual revenue of VND200 billion, contributing VND30 billion to the local budget and creating jobs for 100 ethnic minority people.

The plant’s function is also to regulate the water flow in the downstream area, Dao said.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial’s People’s Committee Ha Thi Minh Hanh highly appreciated the efforts of the investor and local and foreign contractors to complete the plant construction on time.

She urged the plant’s investor to operate the plant properly, fully exploit the designed capacity and comply strictly with the operation rules to ensure the safety of the national grid system.

Hanh also asked the local authorities and the investor to regularly check the safety of the dam, build plans to prevent and fight against fires and floods, as well as set up an observation system to give timely warning of floods to the people living downstream.
