Laos seeks ways to boost its business capacity
Laos is now focusing on strengthening the capacity of its business environment as well as creating the necessary tools, databases and an information centre to facilitate the competency of the business sector in Laos.
Most importantly, it is now set to collect and compile the data of most companies to create a directory book that can then promote the profiles of companies in the country.Last week, the Lao National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) met with the representatives from over 100 companies in Laos to discuss a variety of issues in order to seek better ways to promote their business and to allay barriers in business operations.
At the meeting, LNCCI President Mr Oudet Souvannavong highlighted the master plan of the LNCCI to boost the business environment in Laos including the establishment of the Enterprise Data Centre, the Marketing Branding Centre and promotion of small and medium d enterprises.
“As part of the government’s efforts, the public and private sectors and other parties, all involved will continue to seek ways to boost the business climate by gathering to share ideas on improvements of the legal process and regulations,” he said.
Meanwhile the President of the Vientiane Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mr Sangkhom Chansouk also said “if we can create a directory, it would be good for many companies because the directory can then tell the profiles of companies to certain audiences.”
It has been clearly shown that the LNCCI has a strong commitment to the promotion of Lao companies domestically and internationally when people can read the company’s profiles, he added.
At the same meeting, LNCCI Vice President Ms Valy Vetsaphong also talked about the Provincial Facilitation for Investment and Trade Index and encouraged participants to feel free to cooperate with government sectors to address some of the difficulties they are currently facing.
Some participants also asked for the LNCCI to set up a hotline so it can help in addressing any urgent issues being faced by companies that are members of the LNCCI.
The meeting was co-organised by the LNCCI and the Mekong Business Initiative and supported by the government of Australia and the Asian Development Bank.
