PM in Davos to spotlight reforms
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s attendance at the annual summit of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, will highlight Viet Nam’s determination to promote comprehensive reform and international integration, said Duong Chi Dung, Vietnamese Ambassador to Switzerland.
The Prime Minister left Ha Noi yesterday to attend the forum, where he will meet with international political and business leaders and showcase Viet Nam’s socio-economic development and future plans.
Phuc is accompanied by Minister of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung, Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong, Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, and senior officials.
The prestigious gathering, the theme of which this year is “Responsive and Responsible Leadership”, will also provide Viet Nam with an opportunity to inform participants about Viet Nam’s hosting of the 2017 APEC Summit in November.
Duong Chi Dung told the Vietnam News Agency that the WEF had presented the country with many development investment opportunities.
The forum had become an important arena for Vietnamese leaders to meet and work with leading international corporations. Bilateral contacts between Vietnamese leaders, world leaders and those from World Economic Groups offered good opportunities for Viet Nam’s economic development and helped it formulate policies to develop the nation.
Since 1989, the relationship between Viet Nam and the WEF had expanded to many other areas, including capacity building to improve the country’s competitive edge and co-operation in industry and agriculture.
In addition, Vietnamese enterprises joined many activities hosted by the WEF, while 11 Vietnamese corporations had become members of the WEF, enabling them to network with their foreign counterparts and share their experiences in business development.
In addition, young and talented leaders from the WEF helped Viet Nam create groups of talented young Vietnamese leaders in Ha Noi, Da Nang and HCM City.
The WEF had expressed its wish to expand its multi-facetted cooperation with Viet Nam, given the country’s dynamic development and active role in the region and the world.
“Viet Nam is an active member of the Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) group and a member of the World Trade Organisation. It is also taking a lead in building new generation trade agreement,” Dung said.
Ambassador Dung said the WEF Davos 2017 would be attended by almost 3,000 delegates from more than 70 countries and territories, of which nearly 50 are heads of states and 40 chief representatives of international organizations, including the WTO, World Bank and International Monetary Fund.
