Mitsubishi cutting-edge machinery to boost Vietnamese manufacturing

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group (MHI Group) delivered its latest double-column, five-face milling machine to major mold-manufacturer Chu Lai Truong Hai Molds Manufacturing Co., Ltd.

In recent years, expanding the production of automobiles and household electrical appliances in Vietnam has effected a growing demand for reliable, high-quality milling machines, which are fundamental to the manufacturing process.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Machine Tool (MHI-MAT), a part of MHI Group, has delivered the latest double-column, five-face milling machine, the “MVR-30Ex”, to major mold manufacturer Chu Lai Truong Hai Molds Manufacturing. The product was shipped from Japan in August 2016. Installation was completed in November and the production has been started.

Chu Lai Truong Hai Molds Manufacturing supplies molds for auto parts to several major automobile manufacturers in Vietnam. The double-column, five-face milling machine “MVR-30Ex” delivered by MHI-MAT uses state-of-the-art technology that was developed to meet the three criteria of “high precision,” “high productivity,” and “user friendly.”

High precision

In large-d die-mold manufacturing which often takes hours to complete, spindle expansion at high rotational speed and thermal deformation of the machine due to temperature change affect machining accuracy. The “MVR-30Ex” minimises spindle expansion due to heat by adopting a spindle cooling system for the spindle’s inner and outer cylinders. In addition “thermally stabilised column” has been adopted and minimises thermal deformation of columns by temperature changes and achieves high accuracy.

High productivity

In order to improve productivity, the machine’s cutting capability has been improved by increasing the rigidity of the machine’s main body and main spindle, and rapid traverse of each axis has been faster. The time required for tool change and attachment change has also been reduced, shortening non-cutting time.

User friendly

A large operation panel with 15-inch touch screen has been adopted to improve usability by displaying required information in an easy-to-read manner. Further, environmental considerations are reflected in features like the power regeneration function for the main spindle, the servomotor, and LED lighting. In total, the various energy conservation features make it possible to reduce CO2 emissions by about five tonnes per year.

Currently, Vietnam has a population of over 93 million and is a global leader in labour force and economic growth. In future, active capital investment into infrastructure and industry is expected, bringing further development and growth.

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (Thailand) Ltd. is the regional hub for machine tools in the ASEAN.

“It is very significant for us that Chu Lai Truong Hai Molds Manufacturing Co., Ltd. chose Mitsubishi's milling machine, given that it is one of the major companies of the THACO Group, the top production and sales company for passenger cars in Vietnam. This sale increases our confidence that we can contribute greatly to the expanding Vietnamese market. Our line-up also includes gear processing machines and cutting tools, and by proposing them jointly we will continue to support the development of the automobile industry in Vietnam, as well as the broader society.”

MHI-MAT has made a remarkably large number of sales achievements after first gear machine tools delivered to Vietnam in 1988. It can be expected that its reputation among manufacturers of

industrial machinery, construction machinery, automobiles, and die-molds will be developed further with this delivery of its double-column, five-face milling machine “MVR-30Ex” to Chu Lai Truong Hai Molds Manufacturing.
