CVEA readies to elect new president this December
The impending presidential election for Cambodian Valuers and Estate Agents Association (CVEA) will be held on December 3. The new elect will hold office for two years, and hot favourites have already been singled out to win the role which is currently filled by Kim Heang.
According to CVEA staff, there are a few candidates lined up for this year’s election, with the current president, along with vice-president Sorn Seap, being the definite potentials.
In the current term, CVEA has 98 member companies, compared to last term’s list of only 51.
Thida Ann, senior associate director of CBRE Cambodia, who holds years of experience in Cambodia’s real estate market, said, “I only know that the current president, Kim Heang, will line up again for the election this year. But as for me, I don’t have enough time yet to run for president.”
Heang said that he was only too happy to run for president again, and said, “I hope that I will win. During the previous term which I led, I contributed a lot to the association, such as the increase up to 98 member companies, bringing members to workshops and various project sites every month, designing training courses for members and the public, and conducting local and international real estate events.”
On an international level, CVEA also had, under Heang, inked Memorandum of Understandings with ASEAN Real Estate Network Alliance (ARENA), real estate agent associations in Miami and Northern Virginia, as well as planned for the establishment of a real estate school with the cooperation of the University of Technology of Malaysia (UTM).
Last year’s presidential hopeful, Century 21 Cambodia’s president Chrek Soknim, expressed: “I won’t be in the election for this upcoming term because there are just too many things to be done. I don’t have time for the association yet.”
Post Property was unable to reach the other presidential candidate, Sorn Seap, who is also the head of Key Real Estate.
