CAEXPO, CABIS create buzz on social media
Nanning, Guangxi, China: Topics of interest discussed at the 13th China-Asean Expo (CAEXPO) and the 13th China-Asean Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) held here from September 11-14 and posted on the official CAEXPO Weibo, a Chinese microblogging website, have been viewed 36 million times.
Speaking at the closing press conference of the two events on Wednesday, Secretary-General of the CAEXPO Secretariat Mr Wang Lei said 1,434 journalists from 255 media organisations in 18 countries had attended and reported on the expo and business summit.
He also noted that the official CAEXPO WeChat messaging site had over 210,000 followers and the CAEXPO Facebook page had been visited by over 530,000 people.
Looking forward, the 14th CAEXPO will be preliminarily arranged for September 22-25 next year, when Brunei Darussalam will be the Country of Honour, he added.
The annual expo invites each Asean country to be the Country of Honour in turn, following alphabetical order.
The 14th China-Asean Business and Investment Summit will take place concurrently.
This year's expo and business summit also marked the 25th anniversary of the establishment of China-Asean dialogue relations and the first year of the Asean Community. This was an important occasion for building on past achievements and ushering in a future for building the Belt and Road routes.
The events also support the theme of jointly building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, forging an even closer China-Asean Community of Common Destiny and have made new progress in driving friendly cooperation between China and Asean.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on September 11, Lao Deputy Prime Minister Dr Sonexay Siphandone said Laos fully supports the Belt and Road initiative put forward by the Chinese government.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phoc said Vietnam would actively research its participation in the regional connectivity initiative put forward by China, to guarantee unimpeded trade and contribute to regional peace, common development and prosperity.
Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen said Cambodia welcomed and would fully support the building of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road and connectivity construction.
Myanmar Vice President U Myint Swe said Myanmar would, on the basis of mutual respect, equality and consultation, work closely with China and other Asean countries to build the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, and promote investment in manufacturing, infrastructure construction and finance in the region to foster an even closer community of common destiny.
Thai Deputy Prime Minister Prajin Juntong said Thailand supported the Belt and Road initiative and the AIIB's role in advancing infrastructure construction in Asean countries.
This year's CAEXPO witnessed an all-time high both in terms of the scale of the exhibition and the number of exhibitors.
New exhibition halls at the Nanning International Convention and Exhibition Centre provided additional exhibition space of 30,000m2, equivalent to 1,200 booths, while the total number of booths increased to 5,800, used by 2,669 exhibiting companies.
