Malaysian Minister of International Trade and Industry visits Vientiane
In conjunction with the 48th Asean Economic Ministers' meeting and other related meetings, Malaysian Minister of International Trade and Industry (MITI),YB Dato' Sri Mustapa Mohamed attended a dinner reception in Vientiane last week.
The reception was jointly hosted by the Savannakhet - Lao Bao Rail Way Project concessionaire Giant Rail Co., Ltd. (GRCL) and Asia Economic and Trade Cooperation Council (AETCC) at the residence of Dato' Sri Yuhao Aixinjueluo, the Chairman of AETCC which is the Project Supervision Manager on Contractors' Affairs.
Also present was Malaysian Ambassador to L aos Dato' Than Tai Hing, delegates from MITI, Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation represented by Mr FaizalIzany Mastor, the trade commissioner and President of Malaysia Busi ness Chamber Laos Dr Muhammad Firuz Hamidun.
President/CEO of GRCL Mr Mohammad Fadzwi Bin Hamidun and Vice President Dato' Dr Tock Min Kin briefed the minister on the progress of the 220km railway and 11 mixed development zone on 4,100 hectares of land along the railway route in Savannakhet province.
Dato' Sri Dr Yuhao presented the minister with a token of appreciation for taking his time to attend the dinner despite his busy and tight schedule.
In his speech, the Minister advised Malaysia to enhance its presence in Laos in terms of business development, investments and people to people relationships.
The minister praised Giant Rail Company Limited and Asia Econom ic and Trade Cooperation Council for the partners' immense hard work in developing one of the biggest Lao logistics and commuter transport infrastructure projects which will be the backbone of Laos' transport system.
When completed, the project will link via 115km of railway to “My Thuy Deep-Sea port” project in Quang Tri Province, Socialist Republic of Vietnam, thus materialising previous leaders' vision of an East West Economic Corridor linking Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.
