Danang: Apple made no official decision

Danang refuted media reports claiming that Apple chose the province for its $1 billion research and development (R&D) centre, according to newswire Vietnamnet.vn.

This was announced by Huynh Duc Tho, Chairman of the Danang People’s Committee, at the second session of the Danang People’s Council on August 10.

"I would like to officially tell the media and all deputies that the information is incorrect. There is no official information about Apple’s plans to invest in Danang,” Tho said.

Tho stated that earlier in March, Apple visited Danang, along with other cities, namely Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The investor was mulling over a suitable investment location and would give the final decision at a working session with Danang’s leaders in August.

However, as of now, the province has yet to receive feedback from Apple.

Previously, some local newspapers reported that Apple is very interested in opening a $1 billion R&D centre to facilitate its operations over the entire Asian region and it is highly possible that Danang’s IT Park or High-tech Park will be chosen to host the project.
