Toshiba to supply STGs for Coal-Fired Plants

Toshiba Corporation has received an order to supply steam turbines and generators (STGs) for the extension of the Vinh Tan 4 coal-fired thermal power plant owned by Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN).

The order is from Mitsubishi Corporation of Japan and Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction Co Ltd of South Korea. Delivery will start in January 2018, with commissioning scheduled for 2019.

Toshiba's STGs generate steam at a pressure of over 240 bars, with a reheated steam of 593 degrees Celsius, which is considerably more efficient than the STGs widely used now in Viet Nam.

"Selection of our steam turbines and generators for Vinh Tuy 4 extension is a strong testament to the country's confidence in the technologies and services which Toshiba has developed over the years", said Takao Konishi, General Manager of the Thermal and Hydro Power Systems and Services Division of Toshiba's Energy Systems and Solution Company.

Toshiba will look to contribute to the realisation of a low-carbon society and to the stable supply of electricity in Viet Nam.
