Aircraft engineering, maintenance group eyes expansion to neighbours

One of the world's leading independent aircraft engineering and maintenance service providers, Taikoo Spirit Aero Systems (Jinjiang) Composite Co., Ltd. in China, is considering building factories in Asean and neighbouring countries.

“We are looking for opportunities to expand our factories to other countries in Asean and neighbouring countries of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam,” said the company's General Manager, Mr Sunny Mirchandani.

“But the key thing is infrastructure and regulations,” Sunny Mirchandani said in an interview during a recent visit by Asean journalists to China, under the Exchanges of Production Capacity Cooperation.

“We are in China because of the good infrastructure there and the regulations are quite tough as well. When they don't understand something they ask us to stop and explain,” he added.

However, in neighbouring countries infrastructure is not sufficiently developed, especially roads, which must be wide, straight and well surfaced to enable the transport of large aircraft parts and other equipment.

Infrastructure development is now the focus of many Asean nations to attract overseas investment, and Asean countries have done a lot to hasten the development of infrastructure and are working very hard within the Asean framework.

China is pleased to cooperate with neighbouring countries, including Asean members, and has established a large financial institution, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

Infrastructure development in Asean will require investment of about US$8.22 trillion from 2010 to 2020, equal to about US$800 billion annually. Of this amount, 68 percent will be used to build new infrastructure and the remaining 32 percent will be used to manage existing infrastructure.

Taikoo Spirit Aero Systems (Jinjiang) Composite Co., Ltd., which is part of the HAECO Group, has customers worldwide. “Laos is also one of our customers, Lao Airlines,” he said.

Established in Hong Kong in 1950, HAECO is one of the world's leading independent aircraft engineering and maintenance groups. It is one of the largest Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) service providers in terms of capacity.

The Group offers a full spectrum of services including airframe services, line services, component services, engine services, inventory technical management, fleet technical management, cabin solutions, private jet solutions, freighter conversion, parts manufacturing and technical training.

“Each year there are technical teams from countries, including Asean, participating in technical training,” he said.

HAECO Group's aim is to provide complete support to each of its valued customers, ensuring the unswerving quality, reliability and availability of their fleets.

It strives to become the MRO of choice for its airline customers, building on its capabilities and expanding its service offerings in response to new generation aircraft, aviation industry changes and the evolving needs of its customers. The of the Group's operations affords multiple cost savings, which are passed on to customers, providing them with excellent value for money.

Today it manufactures parts of every Boeing commercial airplane currently in production, which includes the 737, 747, 767, 777 and 787 programmes.
