Migrant workers send home $1 billion a year

Migrant Cambodian workers remit more than $1 billion to families each year, Labour Minister Ith Samheng said yesterday. “Currently, there are between 650,000 and 700,000 legal and illegal Cambodian labourers working abroad, and they have sent home more than $1 billion dollars a year,” he said.

According to ministry data, 540,000 Cambodian labourers are working legally and illegally in Thailand. Some 44,330 Cambodians are working in South Korea, 38,633 in Malaysia, 2,288 in Japan and 401 in Singapore.
