Airport traffic helping Vinci’s revenue soar

Vinci Airports, the airport management arm of French conglomerate Vinci, grew last year on the strong performance of its airport concessions in Cambodia and Portugal, its parent firm reported.

Revenue grew 14.4 per cent to €820 million ($913 million)in 2015, compared to a year earlier, while operating income from ordinary activities increased 25 per cent to €289 million.

The company attributed growth to increasing passenger traffic, which grew 11.4 per cent last year.

“The increase was due to good performance in terms of revenue and margins at the main airports managed, particularly in Portugal and Cambodia,” it said.

Vinci Airports operates 25 airports in France, Portugal, Cambodia and Chile. The company holds a 70 per cent stake in the joint venture that operates Cambodia’s three international airports.

Combined earnings from these airports increased 13 per cent in 2015, according to the financial statement, which did not provide the total revenue figure.

Revenue from the company’s 11 airports in Portugal increased 11 per cent last year, it added.

Cambodia Airports handled more than 6.4 million passengers in 2015, an increase of 13 per cent compared to a year earlier.

The company is investing $100 million to upgrade the capacity of Phnom Penh and Siem Reap airports to accommodate up to 10 million passengers per year in total.
