Vegetable processing plant opens in Hai Duong

Hung Viet Limited Company inaugurated its new vegetable processing plant, worth VNÐ66 billion (US$2.9 million), in northern Hai Duong province on January 10.

Covering 11,200sq.m in the province's Gia Loc District, the plant processes, packages and preserves fruits and vegetables, utilising a broad supply chain and modern equipment.

This is the first large-scale vegetable processing plant built in Hai Duong, covering all stages from production to consumption, with an output of 650,000 tonnes of vegetables and fruits produced per year.

When put into operation, the plant is expected to meet the consumption demand of farmers in Hai Duong and neighboring provinces.

Hung Viet's director, Tang Xuan Truong, said the factory had applied an advanced cold storage system with a variety of functions such as rapid cooling, long-term preservation, washing lines and product classification.

Nguyen Anh Cuong, deputy chairman of the provincial People's Committee, said Hai Duong was considered the northern region's vegetable granary, with an arable area of ??some 4,500ha and an output of more than 600,000 tonnes per year.

Provincial leaders hoped that businesses would increasingly expand their production scale, contributing actively to the promotion of agricultural production and ensuring profits for local farmers, Cuong said.
