Quang Ngai to develop eco-urban project

The Thien Tan Group will invest VND779 billion (US$34.6 million) in the Thien Tan eco-urban zone project and Thien But Park in the central Quang Ngai Province.

Group Chairman Huynh Kim Lap told Viet Nam News that the construction of the project will begin this year on an area of 51ha.

He said the eco-urban zone would cover 31.8ha, while 19.4ha would be reserved for Thien But Park.

He said the project would give the provincial capital of Quang Ngai city a face-lift as the first ‘green,' well-designed and planned urban area.

The central province's people's committee also asked the group to commence the project soon as per the construction schedule that was approved early this month.

According to the group, the Thien Tan eco-urban zone will be developed as a BOO (build-own-operate) project, and the park project will be constructed on a BT (build-transfer) basis.

A resettlement quarter and an information and exhibition centre will be built in the urban area.

It will be the first large project by the domestic investor in 2016.

Last August, the group started the construction of the first 19.2MW solar power plant in Viet Nam in Mo Duc District, with a total investment of VND900 billion ($40 million).

Last year, the province granted investment certificates to five projects, worth VND2.45 trillion ($117 million), in the Dung Quat Economic Zone.

The province has invited domestic and foreign investors to invest in infrastructure projects in the Dung Quat EZ and other industrial parks in the province.

According to the latest reports, the central province has attracted 36 foreign direct investment projects, worth $4 billion.

Singapore's Sembcorp has been preparing for the construction of a 141ha thermal power plant in the Dung Quat EZ

The 2,100MW thermal power plant has an investment capital of $2 billion for the first phase, and is expected to become operational by the third quarter of 2020.
