Fuel prices drop again after global adjustment

F uel prices at petrol stations around the country have fallen for the second time this month, which is good news for mo torists, general consumers and farmers.

The latest price reduction came into effect yesterday morning in Vientiane and the provinces of Khammuan, Savannakhet, Champassak, Bokeo and Xieng Khuang after the Ministry of Industry and Commerce made the announcement.

The prices dropped around 120-130 kip per litre for both petrol and diesel.

In Vientiane, petrol stations are now selling premium petrol for 8,320 kip a litre, regular grade petrol for 7,290 kip a litre, and diesel for 5,900 kip.

In Khammuan province, premium petrol sells for 8,340 kip and regular 7,310 kip, while diesel sells for 5,930 kip.

In Savannakhet province prices should be 8,350 kip a litre for premium, 7,320 kip for regular and 5,930 kip for diesel, while in Champassak province they should sell premium petrol at 8,370 kip, regular petrol for 7,340 kip, and diesel for 5,960 kip.

In Bokeo province, premium petrol should sell for 8,420 kip a litre, regular petrol for 7,390 kip and diesel for 6,000 kip, while in Xieng Khuang province regular petrol is 7,490 kip per litre and diesel is 6,100 kip.

Fuel prices fluctuate depending on shifts in the global market. The lowering of fuel prices in Laos is in line with a reduction of the price of oil in world markets.

However, the price of food products and transportation are remaining stable and the authorities believe that some food and vegetable prices will increase during the New Year celebrations.

Laos is a fuel importing country so it needs to fix fuel pricing in accordance with shifts in the global market.
