SCG introduces living innovations for senior citizens

Siam Cement Group (SCG), a leading business conglomerate in the Asean region, last week staged the SCG Innovative Exposition 2015 to showcase its brand new array of products and services that will suit the expanded needs of families of the future.

More than 40 media representatives from Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar and Vietnam were invited to the exposition in Bangkok on October 29 to witness for themselves the latest products designed for quality living.

President and CEO of SCG, Mr Kan Trakulhoon, says Thailand is growing into an Aged Society with the number of people aged over 60 expected to rise to 20 percent of the total population by 2024.

With deteriorating physical ability, older people will need extra care and services to maintain their healthy lifestyle and prevent them from potential in-house accidents.

To address this problem, SCG has collaborated with many experts to launch the “SCG Eldercare Solution” for families with senior members. This new line of solutions encompasses entire housing solutions – from decoration to the placement and installation of suitable products for appropriate usage. For example, the Automatic Night Light, Shock Absorption Floor, and Stepless Floor can help elderly people to live comfortably with the rest of the family.

SCG's Eldercare Solution was a highlight at the SCG Innovative Exposition 2015. The event also emphasised SCG's mission to offer “Innovation that Cares”, as showcased in the following magnificent technologies:

Living innovations from SCG Cement – Building Materials with the competency to meet customers' trends that rapidly change nowadays show the Living Trend 2016/2017 as a highlight.

This trend was developed by SCG's researchers, marketers and designers for many different lifestyles, leading to the development of products and services that can respond to future expectations.

There was also a showcase of 3D printing, the technology for 3D construction plan that can better serve the demands of intricate architectural designs and ease labour shortage problems. This innovation is also eco-friendly, consisting of recycled aggregate that can help to reduce the use of natural resources.

Also on display was The Nest, a futuristic home design for sustainable living conditions with the solar powered, Active Airflow System to create better living conditions for every family member.

Innovative Medical Materials for better living from SCG Chemicals have been developed with care to support all life events, even during sickness. Medical-grade plastic is an optional choice for medical devices with the benefits of more convenience and more hygiene. For example, the innovative, polymer splint, Poly-Cast is designed to be adjustable to the patient's body, helping the patient to feel comfortable but still benefiting from effective treatment. The outer part is made from a special polymer compound to protect and immobilise an inj ured arm.

Above 60 degrees Celsius, Polymer's flexible property makes for easier moulding, to suit patients' injuries. The inner part is made of elastomer, and is covered with a special fabric to comfort the skin. The odourless antimicrobial Poly-Cast is designed to be porous, airy and ventilated, making patients feel comfortable without the irritation, throughout the treatment per iod.

Other highlights include plastic surgery equipment: the Carpal Tunnel Retractor (CTR), MiniSure Kit, for carpal tunnel syndrome is designed for easier operation and a shorter recovery time, and the Melamine Tableware for the Elderly is ergonomically designed to optimise the physique and physical condition of older people.

Packaging innovations for better living by SCG Packaging have features for safer and easier-to-use packaging. For example, the Microwavable Microflute Packaging for Food Contact can be directly and safely reheated in a microwave oven. This new packaging has good strength, is lightweight, easy to hold, and is biodegradable.

There is also Peel & Clear Lid Film – an anti-fog cling film used in packing food – that is easier to handle without tearing and the Self-Venting Packaging or Eazysteam that can be put right into a microwave oven without needing the usual punch or cut, matching today's lifestyle of customers who enjoy take-aways and also care about food and packaging cleanliness.

Experience the latest housing innovations for better living at the SCG Innovative Exposition 2015 which is taking place throughout the month of November at SCG Experience. The exposition is open on Sundays to Thursdays from 10am-7pm and on Fridays and Saturdays from 10am-8pm.

SCG was established in 1913 under a royal decree from His Majesty King Rama VI to produce cement, the main building material for infrastructure projects that greatly contributed to the development of Thailand during that period.

Since its founding, SCG has grown continually and diversified into three core businesses, namely SCG Cement-Building Materials, SCG Packaging and SCG Chemicals.

Over the past 100 years, SCG has been relentless in organisational and employee development which helps to drive innovation in products, services, processes, and business models to create higher value and address the needs of all parties concerned.

The Group is committed to contributing to the sustainable progress of the communities where SCG operates and pledges to become Asean's business leader as well as a role model in corporate governance and sustainable development.

During their visit to Thailand, media representatives from Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar and Vietnam visited the SCG headquarters in Bangkok, their cement plant in Lampang province and also took in some tourist attractions in Chiang Mai province.
