First Vientiane Expo preparations progressing well

The organising committee for Vientiane Expo 2015 is preparing for companies, organisations and producer groups to display their products at booths from November 26 and 27 at Lao-ITECC in Vientiane.

“Currently we are busy prepa ring the booths to facilitate the companies, organisations and producers' groups, based both locally and overseas, ” an official said yesterday.

The organising committee announced at the press conference yesterday that about 360 booths have been booked, according to a handout.

However an official says the numbers will be more than that by the end of this week due to there being some more companies and organisations which have expressed their interest in the event.

“We will know the exact numbers on Friday,” the official said.

The handout note d that the 360 booths include over 300 booths for local display while the remaining 60 booths are for foreign participants.

The Expo will run from November 28 to December 7, seeking to promote Laos' top business units and products from both local and overseas producers.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce, Mr Somchith Inthamith, said at the press conference that the event is mainly for the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Laos, and opening doors for businesspeople and local and international organisations to display their produce for visitors.

“The important thing is that the event will also have special booths for displaying the developments in Laos before and after 1975 and the outcomes over 40 years,” he said.

The event will also include a demonstration of handmade items, such as cotton and silk weaving, carvings and other woven goods.

It will also include meetings or seminars on trade integration and the economy in the region and the world, with participants including local producers, Asean countries and international organisations.

The exhibition will also feature a song contest and performances by Lao as well as foreign artists.

Handicrafts, consumer goods and electronic devices will be on sale at the expo and the organisers expect to see more than 100,000 visitors during the event.

Foodstuffs, agricultural products, wooden furniture, interior décor items, gems and jewellery will also be on display.

The Expo will showcase outstanding national and regional products, along with marking the 40th anniversary of the Lao PDR. The event will also feature local products that play significant roles in the socio-economic development of Laos.

It will also be a platform for local and regional businesses to network and engage in business-matching activities. This will be a special highlight in addition to featuring a wide range of Lao products and some goods from neighbouring countries.

The expo will provide a symbol of the efficient cooperation between Laos and other nations. It also reflects the friendship, good relations, solidarity and mutual understanding between Laos and foreign countries.
