S Korea remains Viet Nam's top market for squid, octopus

South Korea remains Viet Nam's largest market for squid and octopus exports, accounting for a 37.7 per cent share, which however represents a year-on-year decrease of 3.5 per cent.

According to the Vietnam Seafood Exporters and Producers, the exports of the two items to South Korea this year have been worth US$110.3 million. This year Viet Nam has exported $292.7 million worth of squid and octopus overall.

Frozen octopus accounted for 31 per cent of the value. Korea's import of frozen octopus has risen while that of refrigerated octopus shows a downward trend.

Viet Nam is the leading seller of frozen squid to South Korea while Japan and Thailand are the biggest sellers of refrigerated squid.

For Viet Nam, Japan is the second largest buyer of squid and octopus ($71 million), followed by the EU and ASEAN.
