One-third of enterprises in VN must "lobby" tax officers

The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the General Department of Taxation (GDT) have released a report on business satisfaction with the reform of taxation procedures in 2014.

The report surveyed more than 2,500 enterprises from Vietnam’s 63 cities and provinces, who contribute 61 per cent of total domestic taxation revenue.

The service quality of taxation offices in general improved significantly in 2014 thanks to the reform of administrative procedures. The conclusion was made based on a set of evaluation indexes that included access to information, implementation of taxation procedures, taxation procedures supervision, and the service quality of taxation officers. The satisfaction level of the 2,500 enterprises in 2014 scored 71 on a scale of 100.

Dr. Vu Tien Loc, Chairman of VCCI, commented that the result shows that the GDT is heading in the right direction with its reforms. He also stressed, however, that 32 per cent of surveyed enterprises complained about having to pay “lobbying fees” to taxation officers.

Mr. Bui Van Nam, General Director of GDT, said that it has taken note of the results and will be more aggressive in improving taxation procedures for the benefit and convenience of businesses and individuals in fulfilling their tax obligations.
