FDI in information and communications reaches $4.14 billion

There have been more than 1,150 foreign direct investment (FDI) projects relating to the information and communications sector in Viet Nam, with a combined registered capital of US$4.14 billion.

The FDI in this sector accounted for 6.3 per cent of the total number of FDI projects in the country and 1.6 per cent of their total value.

The data was updated in late May and released by the Ministry of Planning and Investment's Foreign Investment Agency on June 22.

According to the agency, with every project valued at average $3.6 million, the information and communication field ranked seventh in the 18 economic sectors that have FDIs in the country, in terms of investment scales.

In Viet Nam, Luxembourg emerged as the top investing nation in the sector, representing up to one fourth of the $4.14 billion investment value. Japan ranked second, with 19.5 per cent of the amount, followed by Singapore, with 17.8 per cent share.

With projects worth nearly $2.3 billion, HCM City attracted the most capital, followed by Ha Noi, with $1.69 billion, and Hai Phong, with $57.1 million.
