Isuzu confident of hitting sales targets
Isuzu Lao Service Sole Company expects to reach its sale targets for the MU-X after the SUV model was released on the local market last year.
Managing Director of Isuzu Lao Services Sole Company, Mr Vilasaykham Philaphandeth spoke to Vientiane Times recently during a tour of the Japanese brand's manufacturing facility near Bangkok in Thailand.
“The company expects to sell more than 300 SUVs this year while sales of the D-Max pickup will go over 1,000,” he said.
In 2013 D-Max sales reached more than 800 vehicles, but dropped last year to around 400 due to the domestic economic situation and other facto rs out of their control. However, the company was still confident it would reach this year's target, he said.
According to Mr Vilasaykham the Lao pickup market was very competitive but the company was beginning to raise consumer awareness about the Isuzu brand as well as promoting the fuel efficiency of its vehicles following discussions with the company in Thailand.
He said they recently completed a promotional round trip from Vien tiane to Pakxe of 1,138km on one tank of diesel.
In Laos pickups make up 40 percent of the total market for four-wheel drive vehicles as many people use them for commercial and private use.
Meanwhile, SUVs are continuing to gain in popularity and the company is keen to see the MU-X succeed after having sold 20,000 units in Thailand since last year's launch.
The MU-X was officially launched on the Lao market in August 2 014. The company described its seven seat vehicle as redefining the boundaries of adventure, fitted with the latest in sophisticated safety technology and with an impressive turbo diesel engine.
