New training hotel to improve tourism and hospitality skills

Laos will construct a hotel for training to update vocational tourism and hospitality skills of the country to international standards.

The Lao World Public Company (Lao World) and Champassak Grand Hotel have decided to jointly fund the project with the Ministry of Education and Sports after the ministry selected the partners.

The joint funding agreement was signed in Vientiane on Wednesday by representative of the Lao World, Mr Visan Nalongsack, the Champassak Grand Hotel Managing Director, Mr Houa Sengaroun and the Ministry of Education and Sports' Office Head, Assoc Prof. Dr Sisamone Sithirajvongsa.

The agreement was also witnessed by Deputy Minister of Education and Sports, Dr Kongsy Sengmany and Technical and Vocational Department Director General, Mr Nouphan Outsa.

The ceremony was attended by Minister to the Government Office and Head of the Government Office, Dr Sonexay Siphandone along with officials from relevant sectors.

The hotel training facility is under the Lao National Institute of Tourism Hospitality, and will be located at the Pakpasak Technical College campus in Vientiane.

The facility will be to five star international standard comprising more than 10 floors.

Developers estimated they will spend around US$25 million on construction.

However, the project is undergoing design and it's ex pected it will take three years to construct after approval.

The hotel will be the site for the Lao National Institute of Tourism Hospitality's students to study, learn and train with the hotel complex providing hands on vocational hotel and restaurant experience.

The project will help to supply the national demand for education and human resource development in line with government policy and ministry goals.
