VITA needs more labourers for investment growth
Vientiane Industry and Trade Area (VITA Park) needs an additional 2,500 labourers to supply the 15 companies which are expected to commence operations next year.
VITA Park Chairman, Mr Sibounheuang Vienheuangphay explained on Friday that VITA now has four companies under construction and five companies producing goods for export.
The existing operations now have more than 1,000 employees working there, including 28 foreign workers.
Employment increased 15 percent if compared with early 2014, when there were only 600 workers.
Two years later VITA will enjoy 34 registered factories and those companies will be requiring labourers to serve their industrial units.
However, the shortage of labour in Laos is still a major issue for foreign investors, which means industrial development is under pressure but some factories have taken the decision to expand their business here.
VITA in Xaythany district is one of the major industrial parks in Vientia ne requiring more workers for the factories in the area.
Mr Sibounheuang pointed out that most of the workers in the area come from the villages surrounding the park.
Currently one investor is building a dor mitory where workers living too far away to commute or coming from other provinces can stay.
Several companies are providing chances for local workers to undergo training which is one way to encourage Lao people to work in the industrial park.
VITA is also working in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare, vocational training schools and nearby villages to source its labour needs.
Workers in the factories in this industrial park receive a basic salary of about one million kip and are provided with free transport, lunch and health insurance.
The park has space for around 50 factories on an area of 110 hectares and is expected to provide employment for more than 12,000 workers once it is full.
