Lao planning officials get training boost
Economic development is underpinned by sound economic planning and regulation, so to this end the importance of sound strategic planning is central to economic growth and the improvement of livelihoods.
This was the message stressed at a four day seminar on strategic planning, organised by the Ministry of Planning and Investment in cooperation with Burapha University in Thailand.
The seminar saw the participation of representatives from different sectors, including both private and government organisations in Vientiane.
Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, Dr Kikeo Chanthabouly spoke at the opening of the course on Friday, encouraging the participants to increase their skills in relation to the creation of strategic plans.
Dr Kikeo said better strategic planning would encourage development in their own organisations as well as contribute to the overall socio-economic development of the nation.
During the course, participants would also have the opportunity to exchange experience and share knowledge with each other about creating strategic plans, he added.
Dr Kikeo said he believed that the training course would help develop human resource skills in both the government and private sectors, contributing to the strategic plan in each period.
“As we know, the government has formulated various annual plans, five year socio-economic development plans and 25 year strategic plans towards economic development and improving people's livelihoods,” he noted.
“Development in each period is different and we have to follow up on the facts and conditions, in both nature and society,” he explained.
Through the training, participants will receive valuable knowledge about creating strategic plans, especially from the Thai experts from Burapha University, he added.
The seminar would provide an important platform for the exchange of information and understanding of issues in relation to strategic planning and how to ensure plans are formulated in line with the local realities while also taking into account regional trends and developments.
However, creating strategic plans to reach development targets requires the participation of stakeholders from various organisations and sectors and taking into account the realities of the local economy.
The strategic planners should focus on the importance of studying, analysing and assessing situations in order to ensure efficient planning, Dr Kikeo said.
